In the opening Cycles of the Aranthian Succession, an explosion of unknown origin opens a chasm in the great adamantium Wall that separates the Spire with the Hive City of Hive Primus. With Lord Helmawr’s forces in disarray, a number of underhive gangs see an opportunity to make a dash for the landing fields that monopolize all trade and transportation to and from the planet.
First the gangers must navigate the unfamiliar domes of the upper hive levels, facing down hostile environments and warbands. Among others, they encounter guardsmen of the Astra Militarum, who were brought to the planet on a recruitment drive. Now scattered, these soldiers may make powerful temporary allies as they also try to make their way offworld.
When they finally arrive at the landing fields, the gangs hope to commandeer a ship to let them escape their forsaken homeworld. But the upper hive is not without its dangers, and with the chaos brought on by the Great Darkness, there will be competition for the few remaining space-worthy vessels.
